AL FEATURED IN TIME MAGAZINE

A note from Al:

" By the way, although Palin and I share this issue of Time (Asia Ed.) with stories about both of us in it, that is where our association begins and ends.

OBAMA and "CHANGE" will get my vote.

Bush and McCain are joined at the hip and head, and their policies have lead us down the path to war and a failing economy."

AL ADDS A DIARY NOTE

Hi everybody, I haven’t made a diary entry in a very long time. I don’t like that…but, I got swamped and so busy that I had to let go of some stuff. Still, somehow I’ve got to check in with you at least intermittently, even if briefly and update you. Losing touch for so long is not okay. So, I apologize and will really try to talk to you more. I’ll save the general catch up highlights for another time. Right now, I must mention that George Benson and I just closed out a seven city asia tour. Seoul, Beijing, shanghai, manila, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and last night our closer in Jakarta. It was wonderful!

Al's new album "Love Songs" is in-stores now.

Here's a note from Al about the album:

" Whenever someone asks me if I sing to Susan (they ask her too), I put this far away dreamy look on my face and sing a very soft quiet "oh…", that gradually gets louder until it becomes "Ooooklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain…" not very romantic huh?! That’s when they shake their heads and mumble something about “crazy” and in a moment they start to snicker, and pretty soon we’re both laughing real hard. If it’s not romantic, it sure is silly & fun.
The danger is being too syruppy, sappy, mushy and boring. Or the risk of all the above, here's a bunch of my favorite love songs."

THE YEAR HAS STARTED off with a big bang for Al who is nominated for three Grammy Awards, for tracks from his first collaborative album with George Benson entitled "Givin' It Up" (Concord Music Group) which was released Oct.24, 2006. First week sales saw the album charting at #58 on the Billboard Top 200, #18 on the R&B Charts and #1 on the Contemporary Jazz Charts.

Al helped celebrate the opening of the Edmonds Center for the Arts near Seattle, WA on January 4 with an opening ceremony and performance, then traveled onwards to Las Vegas where he co-headlined the coveted Monster Cable CES private party on January 8.

Thus far it has been a busy year, with Al on the road, visiting the port of St.Thomas in the Caribbean and performing as part of the Smooth Jazz Cruise, a short trip to Hawaii, and the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez.

Look out for an upcoming show at the Detroit Music Hall on St. Valentine's Day.

There are no signs of slowing down either, Al has just confirmed an international co-headlining tour with George Benson, where they will travel to S.Africa, Australia and New Zealand (March 15-April 5), US dates in April and May, and a European Summer Tour (late June thru July) in the works.

In early March 2007 Al will be awarded by the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation at the Kennedy Center for his contribution to "Jazz in Our Time" as a "Living Legend"
